Uganda - Apply for register as a Voter

HOW TO APPLY

  1. The Electoral Commission Broad of Uganda usually advertises the process of registration of voters through the daily newspapers, radio and TV stations, putting up posters on public places and government office, and through their official website portal
  2. After the public awareness programme exercises, trained staff official employed by the electoral board will be dispatched throughout the country to carry out the registration exercises
  3. If you have not registered as a voter you should head to any of the government offices site where the exercises are carried out with all the required documents
  4. Request for the application form and fill it correctly, if you have any queries the staff will assist you to fill the form
  5. Queue and wait for your turn, on which the official will verify the filled form, the required documents and take your biometric information data and enter all the information into the electoral commission system
  6. The Electoral Commission Broad will then advertise using the above methods of advertising on when the voter’s cards can be collected from the government office where you registered from.

  • Proof of physical address and postal address, with contact numbers.

  • Voter registration establishes the eligibility of individuals to vote in coming national elections

  • You must be on the electoral register to vote in elections and referenda and this is done by registering and you should be 18 years by the close of the update Exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission.
Thus, when a Voters' roll for each polling station in a parish has been compiled and only persons whose names appear on the roll are entitled to vote at an election (Section 19(12)Electoral Commission Act 1997).

  • Voter’s card can be used as proof of identity and accepted by, banks, visa application offices, board control authorities, hospitals, university registrations, driving license office, Revenue Authorities etc.

A registered voter enjoys the following privileges:

  • He/She may contest for any desired elective posts,
  • He/She is permitted to nominate or second a candidate of his/her choice or sign supporters list during nominations.
  • He/She is allowed to vote for a candidate of his/her choice.
  • He/She is allowed to sign a petition to seek redress, in the event of any election results.
