Practical tests for heavy categories or trailers
To be eligible to take the practical test for heavy categories or trailers, you must have passed the following tests first:
Health Requirements
You must immediately visit a doctor whenever you are experiencing health problems that has a direct effect in your driving capability. You are required to undergo a medical examination to see if you are fit to drive a vehicle. If the doctor finds that you do not meet all the health requirements, he/she is obliged to report this to the health department of the County Governors office. You must hand in your driving licence to the police. Even if such a report is not sent, you are not permitted to drive while your state of health is impaired.
The period of validity for a driving licence or a driving licence category may be reduced due to health problems experienced by its holder. The period of validity is indicated on the driving licence. Make sure that you have renewed your license before it expires.
If your driving licence has livelong validity (up to the age of 100) and you have reached the age of 70, you must also carry a valid medical certificate. Such certificates have a validity of from one to five years depending on your state of health.
Driving licences for categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE for heavy vehicles must be renewed before it expires. When you renew your driving entitlements, you must submit in person a medical certificate, issued not more than six months ago.

Note*: You are not required to take the theoretical test in order to go from category A1 to A2, A2 to A or A1 to A.

You can use cash or debit cards to pay for the fees at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office. Credit cards are NOT accepted.
Norwegian driving licences under categories A, A1, B, B1, BE, M, S and T normally have lifelong validity, given as being up to the age of 100. However, once the holder reaches the age of 70, the validity of the driving licence will depend on his/her physical capability to operate a vehicle, a medical certificate will have to submitted during the renewal process.
Categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE for heavy vehicles are valid for a limited period, normally five years. From the age of 70, the period of validity is one year.
