Apply in Person

1. One can apply their International driving license in their Regional Transport Authority Office. Link: Contacts Link
2. Please visit the RTA between 10 am and 12.30 pm because if you visit before or after this time the counter that issues coupons will be closed and you will have to return the next day.
3. You can get following forms directly from RTO office
   1. IDP application Form.
   2. Fitness Declaration Form.
   3. Template for Health Certificate by medical practitioner.
   4. Link for Forms: Form4a and Form1A link and Form Link
4. Take the forms and fill the details. While entering your details please enter them as exactly mentioned in your license and passport.
5. Now, attach a photo on the health certificate and take it to a doctor then the doctor will sign across your photo and also make a stamp impression.
6. Now, come back to the RTO office and put these papers together and take it to the officer. Here the officer will also ask for the originals, he will cross check your passport and license and when satisfied, will stamp Verified : Original. He will issue a token number too.
7. With that number you need to observe an electronic board that reads which token number is being called and which counter that applicant needs to go to. So, wait for your turn.
8. Officer at the counter will ask you on your turn to get an ORDER by the RTO Officer.
9. At the counter you need to pay a sum of 1000 Rs for which you will get a receipt. The counter person will ask details of the country you are visiting and stuff. He will give back your forms.
10. You might have to get the sign of the AO.
11. After this, you need to get your photo taken, give your digital signature and bio metric print of your left index finger.
12. Now submit your forms and credentials. The officer will take everything along with your receipt. The officer will ask for one passport photo. He will either immediately issue your IDP or ask you to return at 4 pm.
13. Collect your Booklet and Card.

Apply Online - Karnataka Apply for International driver permit online with Images

1. To Obtain an International Driving Licence in Karnataka, the applicant can make the application online via the following link link
2. The applicant has to click “Drivers/ Learners License” and select the respective state from the drop-down menu.
3. On the next tab, the applicant has to click “Apply for International Driving Permit (IDP)” and read the instructions and click “Continue”
4. Next the applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
5. Make sure that the applicant has to upload all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. Review the application and click “Submit”
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. An acknowledgment receipt will be displayed. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
9. Next the applicant should book the slot and visit the office on the respective date.
10. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.

Printing application:

1. You can take printout of online application form with the help of the link: Application Link
2. Select “Karnataka” in the drop down menu against “Please select the State from where the service is to be taken”
3. In the next window, please click “Download Forms” to select “Print application form” option
4. Please enter your application number and other detail in the next window and hit ”Submit” to follow the next window to get the printout.
   

Appointment:

1. You can book appointment with RTO using the following link Online Appointment Link
2. Please click “Appointment (Slot Booking)” to select “services on driving license” option. In the new window select appropriate option and hit submit to process your request to book appointment.

• 3 to 4 of Passport size photographs (carry more just in case if needed)
• A valid permanent drivers license with validity beyond 1 year. If your license is going to expire in less than a year, you will have to get it renewed and then apply for the IDP.
• A valid passport which expires only a year later.
• A valid visa to the country you are going to visit.
• Air Tickets (Optional).

• Health certificate by a medical practitioner.

• Attested copy of the permanent address proof
• A self - attested letter to the Zonal RTO requesting to authenticate International Driving Permit
• Form: CMV - 4 , CMV-1 and CMV-1A should be duly filled and submitted at the Zonal RTO, failure to do so will lead to rejection of your International Driver’s License application.

• The standards for the International Driver's License were defined by the United Nations Conference on Road Traffic, Final Act held in the year 1968. According to this law, the International Driver's License is defined mainly as a document:
  

(i)That states the main information contained in the Original Driver's License in English.

(ii)That has the photo and signature (or thumbprint) of the owner of the vehicle.

(iii)That states the categories of vehicles for which the Original Driver's License is valid.

(iv)That states the restrictive conditions of driving and terms of disqualifications.

• International Driver's License consists of two parts. The first part consists of a booklet which states all the standards approved by the latest UN convention and a plastic identity card. The genuineness of the information on the plastic card is ascertained by the presence of a hologram.

• One has to get the International Driving License to drive in overseas country
