If you are planning on driving during your trip to Greece, you should get an International Driver's License. Greek laws require a foreign driver to have an International Driving Permit (IDP) as well as a state-issued driver's license to operate a vehicle in the country.

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a globally recognized document that carries a passport-sized photo of you and a translation of your own, local drivers licence in ten different languages besides English - Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. IDPs is a recognized form of identification in 174 countries.

NOTE:The National Automobile Club no longer issues them.

• An International Driving Permit is a translation of your national driving license. The IDP allows motorists to drive vehicles in foreign countries. You must always have your IDP along with your national license at all times.
