You apply for an International Driver Licence (IDL) in person or by post.
- In person: Visit a RAC Service Centre.
- By Post: If applying by post, you must include a return address and contact number with a clear photocopy of your current driver's licence (both sides) and an original passport photograph. Delivery of your postal permit depends upon the postal options you choose but in most cases you will receive your permit in 3-7 days. RAC is not responsible for any mail lost if posted by ordinary mail and recommend registered or express post for peace of mind and security.

Required DocumentsEdit
- Passport photo, must not be older than 6 months. You can get passport photo at RAC Member Service and Travel centres: $14.50 for RAC members and $16.50 for non-members.

EligibilityEdit
Anyone with a full valid Australian driver's licence (no learners permits) over the age of 18 can apply for an international driver's licence.
FeesEdit
International Driver Licence (IDL): $36.50
For request submitted by mail the following postage rates apply - within Australia, standard post $1 / registered post $4. International, standard air mail $4 / registered $15.
ValidityEdit
The IDL is valid for 12 months or expires at the same time as your Australian driver's licence, whichever comes first.

InstructionsEdit
Only RAC and associated members of the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) are authorized to issue international driver's licence in Australia.
Note: RAC does not provide international driver's licences to foreign visitors to Australia.

An International Driver License (IDL) is a document recognized in many countries which allows the foreign visitors to drive a private motor vehicle. To be valid the IDL must be accompanied by your Australian Driver's License.

- The IDL allows you to drive overseas without further tests or applications, provided your current Australian driver's licence is valid.
