Jamaica - Online Guidance to Apply Student Loan

Step 2 : The Student’s Loan Bureau (SLB) is the premier student loan financing organization in Jamaica. You can view their contact details via this link:Link.To apply for the student loan, you must first complete the application form electronically through the SLB online portal: Apply Online

Step 3 : Enter your “Email Address” and “Password” and click on the “Login” button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image.If you are a newuser click on the “here” hypertext which is pointed out by a “Green” arrow in the below image.

• Note: You required a valid Tax Registration Number (TRN) to complete your online registration.
  

Step 4 : Complete the application form according to this instructions provided by the SLB: Link.

Step 5 : After completing the Registration form click on the “Register” Button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image.

Step 6 : Now enter your login credentials and click on the “Login” button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image.

Step 7 : Make a list of references with each person's name, their job title or relation to you, and their contact information. Note that most applications will want two referees or guarantor and some banks or Government departments will only want a recommendation letter from guarantor or referees coming from the same Bank where you have an account.

Step 8 : Your two Referees are not supposed to be your immediate family member, a student or any member of your house hold.

Step 9 : Upload all the required documents through the online platform and book an appointment for an interview for the loan application with the SLB, note that you will be required to present the original documents on the day of your interview or drop them at the drop box of the SLB office or via the Drop off facility of SLB participating institutions.

Step 10 : The SLB will review your application and if the application meets the required standards, it will be forward to the SLB committee for further review and approval.

Step 11 : Upon approval, the SLB loan committee will publicize the approved applicants and the names shall be posted on the SBL website and also printed in the Local newspaper.

Step 12 : The approved student loans will be disbursed to directly to Higher Education Institution’s Bank Accounts.

Step 13 : Then the education Institutions will verify that you the beneficiary of the student loan has reported and been registered or you have passed all the necessary examinations allowing you to advance to the next level of study.

Step 14 : After verification the institution will remit to your bank account the amount of loan received from the Board.

Note:

Step 1 : The information that you supply will be verified by the Students Loan Bureau, using means provided under the law for this purpose. If you purposefully give false or misleading information, you will be denied any financial assistance from the Students Loan Bureau and any sums outstanding under this loan program will be recalled immediately.

Step 2 : Money received on the basis of inaccurate information may constitute a fraud punishable by law with possible imprisonment.
