Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Applicant has to approach the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office in Ghana and the, the applicant can get their application form for International Driver License (IDL) contact link
2. Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
3. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
4. Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page.
5. Applicant should be physically present in the driver license office where you are requesting for international driver license.
6. Road signs and rod marking test (when the need arises).
7. If applicant passes the road signs test, you will then take the last driving exam with a DVLA instructor.
8. If applicants pass the driving test with no errors, he / she then qualify for a cover note.
9. After completing and passing all the exams you are required to pay for a temporary driver’s license and is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor.
10. The details to appear in your driver’s licenses will also be captured during this visit.
11. After completing all the process, the applicant is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor to turn in for a driver’s license.
12. Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes 3 months.

• An international driving permit is a translation of your national driving license. The IDP allows motorists to drive vehicles in foreign countries. You must always have your IDP along with your national license at all times.

Need for the Document

• The driving license is issued as an authority to allow a person to drive a motor vehicle of any class on a road in Ghana.
• Any person driving a motor vehicle on a road is required by law carry his driving license or learners permit, and on being so required by a police officer, produce it for examination.
• The driving license shows compliance with Ghanaian traffic laws regarding driving.

• Present you valid existing Ghanaian driver license and after validation and verification you will requested to pay the necessary fees.
• If everything is successful, you will be provided with an International Driver License (IDP).
