Zambia - Register a Copyright


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. To register a Copyright in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA). Please tap on the following contact details link.
  2. Make sure to have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting any Zambia Development Authority office.
  4. Where a claim is for copyright in relation to a work already on the register, the Registrar may waive the requirement that a copy of the work be lodged with the application.
  5. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill in all the necessary information in the application form.
  6. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
  7. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  8. On receiving a claim in accordance with this section, the Registrar will register the copyright, assign it an identifying number and issue a certificate of registration.
  9. A copy of the work may be inspected at the office of the Registrar.
  10. Collect the certificate from the office in a stipulated Period of Time.





Required Documents

  • A claim for registration, in a form approved by the Registrar.
  • Copy of the work in which copyright is claimed.
  • A statutory declaration that he is the owner of the copyright described
  • Cash or Managers’ Cheque for license fees.

Fees

  • Application Fee: ZK 20.
  • License Fee: Pay as per the authority’s request.

  • The registration will be valid for the period mentioned in the license.

  • Application forms that are incorrectly filled, incomplete or altered will not be processed.




Required Information

  • Particulars of the owner of the copyright.
  • The type of copyright claimed and any limitations on the copyright held by that owner.
  • The date on which the copyright arose.
  • The person from whom the copyright was acquired, if the owner of the copyright is not the first owner of the copyright.
  • Any other matters required by the approved form.
