Zambia - Obtain a License or Permit to Hunt Birds


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a license (permit) to hunt birds in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Zambia Wildlife Authority, for the main office visit link.
  2. Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting the department of national parks and wildlife office.
  4. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill-in all the necessary information in the application form.
  5. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
  6. Pay the fee as per given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  7. Approved application will be submitted directly to the Ministry of Tourism & Arts in Lusaka.
  8. After the completion and verification of all the documents, your permit will be available.
  9. The applicant gets the license(permit) in a stipulated period of time.

  • Applicants must not be minors.

  • This licence is valid up to 31st of December in the year of issue.

Instructions

  • This licence is not transferable.
  • A maximum of 30 birds may be hunted per month by a licensee provided that the licensee shall not hunt more than 5 birds per day.
  • A licence shall not hunt more than 15 birds of the same species per month.
  • The licensee shall hold only one valid bird hunting licence at any given time.
  • The license shall, at all times whilst hunting, be in actual possession of the licence.
  • The licence shall, at all times whilst hunting be accompanied by a wildlife police officer or village scout.
  • License is valid in open areas only.

  • A bird licence shall be issued subject to the conditions specified in the licence and shall authorise the licensee to hunt the birds specified in the licence in any area in Zambia other than a National Park, a wildlife or bird sanctuary, and in the number specified in the licence.
