Step 1 Applications are usually invited from suitably qualified Zambians to contest for these student loans by way of adverts in the Print Media ( Daily Mail and Times of Zambia) around February / March and September each year
Step 2 The Next step is to send a Handwritten letter of application to the Bursaries Committee responding to the advert in the media, ,starting the loan category and why you should be considered for this Loan.clearly state the field of study desired, age, day time telephone number, fax and e-mail address for easy communication.
Step 3 Attach the necessary documents on the Application form,A certified Photostat copies of Education Certificates, Transcripts and Curriculum Vitae. All Loan applicants are expected to possess valid Social Security Numbers.You should get the complete details of all the requirement from the Loan Application Guidelines.
Step 4 Attach a brief study plan of details outlining a preferred course and how the intended course of study will enhance ones contributions to Zambias development (200 and 400 words for Undergraduates and Postgraduates, respectively).
Step 5 Submit your Application form together with other requirements as stipulated in the Student Loan Guidelines,the bursary Committee shall allocate a student loan identification numbers to each approved applicant.
Step 6 The Bursaries committee will shortlist the applications and determine the best applicants for approval,a list of the approved students will be posted in the print Media and letters acceptance sent to various Universities and colleges across Zambia.
Step 7 The next step will be to disbursed to the Bank account of higher institution of learning in Zambia.Part of the loan due to the student is paid to the beneficiary through a commercial bank as funds become available. Candidates awarded a Student Loan are expected to meet any short fall not covered by the loan.
The loan is determined by the Bursaries Committee and is not negotiable by the students union. The loan is only valid for one academic year/semester but may be renewable on application on production of satisfactory academic results.

The Bursaries Committee was established through a statutory instrument, No. 182 of the 1973 Education Act of the Laws of Zambia.The Committee is to administer bursaries, loans, scholarships and fellowships for tertiary education locally and abroad. The Committee consists of twelve members drawn from relevant ministries and / or departments, the two public Universities, quasi-Government and private organizations and the Secretary of the Bursaries Committee. The Committee is chaired by the Deputy Minister of Education.
