1. Complete an application form.
2. Submit the completed form along with all other required documents to the cashier.
3. Once your application is approved, fee is collected by cashier and a receipt is given to the customer.
4. You will need to wait around 90 Days before you can collect your customized license plates. When your plates are ready for pick up you will receive a post card in the mail or a telephone call letting you know when you may collect your plates.
5. When returning to the office to collect your new plates, do not forget to bring your vehicles old license plates.

Customized License Plates:

• Personalized License Plates: $1,000.00
• Professional License Plates: $400.00

A fee of $5.00 is collected when the plates are transferred to another vehicle. Please allow 90 days

You may pay by check made payable to the Accountant General, cash or credit card for your customized license plate at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Customized license plates may only be used on Private Vehicles. Customized plates are not available for Motorcycles, Commercial Vehicles and Taxis or Livery Vehicles

Customized license plates may contain any combination of letters and or numbers with a minimum of one character and a maximum of seven characters. Your customized plates will be produced exactly as requested.

Alpha numerical wording would be put together or they can be used interchangeably. Punctuation characters such as a dash (-), number sign (#) or ampersand (&) may not be used on personalized plates but the dash (-) only will be used on the professional plate.

To apply for the procedure you will need to go to the DMV office in person.

Following is procedure on how you can obtain customized license plates in British Virgin Islands.

• Requests for offensive words, profanity or a socially unacceptable word or abbreviation will not be processed by the Department.
• The Department has the power to recall any customized plates, after insured, which are later discovered to be offensive etc.
• Customized plates cannot duplicate the format of regularly issued license plates (such as DV-100, or PV-20000).
• The wording on a personalized plate is subject for approval by the Minister.
• Personalized or professional plates that bear the same wordings will be identified with a number following, which will represent the number of vehicles with such personalized or professional plates.
