Offline procedure:

1. Please visit Sub registrar office and obtain application form for registering your marriage. To find the sub registrar office please use the following Link: Contact link
2. Please fill the form as obtained from the office and it has to be duly signed by couple. Please submit the form in the respective section officer along with required documents. Make sure that you are eligible for applying.
3. As advised, please make the payment for completing the process. The application will then be processed internally. Applicant will be notified to visit the SRO office to complete the process.
4. On said date please go to the office along with witnesses as mentioned and sign before the registrar on the register.
5. Applicant will be issued with the certificate on the same day evening.

Online process - Uttar Pradesh Register a Marriage and Obtain Certificate Online with Images

1. Uttar Pradesh Government has introduced online system for marriage registration procedure. Go to online portal website and click on “Apply” under “marriage registration” session
2. In the given page user has to select the “yes” or “no” option for having mobile number associated with aadhar. The yes option is temporarily not in function so use “no” to process further.
3. In the next page, please select new application form option to get the online application form
4. Please fill in Husband, wife, selection of marriage site or Sub registrar office and witness details (address, communication details as applicable) followed by uploading required documents as prompted by selecting respective option.
5. Once the filling of details are done. Hit “secure this to get the summary or preview of the information entered.
6. In this page, user need to fill / select prompted details and hit respective option to get the user name and password for sign in
7. This user name and password will be useful to know the status of the application and to print it after it is generated.
8. User has to take the printout of acknowledgement and online application form and should visit the SRO for completing the process. (As the self authentication through Aadhaar is not in function)

PRINTING CERTIFICATE

1. Applicant can use the user name and password to check the status of the certificate. They can even print the same by using the “Based marriage registration verification” option under “marriage registration” session in the online portal as mentioned above.
2. The resulting page prompts to enter the details for the certificate. Please proceed as per page prompts to get the certificate printout

• Respective application form.
• Completely filled application form signed by both husband and wife.
• Address proof of current residing address which should be on Bride or Grooms name (Proof of Address- Voter ID/ Ration Card/ Passport, Driving License ).
• 2 passport sized photographs.
• 2 Photos of Bride and Groom in marriage dress taken during marriage ritual which clearly show they are taking part in marriage ceremony.
• Separate Marriage Affidavits in prescribed format from Husband & Wife.
• Proof of Date of Birth of both husband and wife (Documents which serve as Proof of Age preferably 10th class mark sheet with date of birth).
• Aadhaar Card
• Marriage Invitation Card
• Three witnesses to certify your marriage.
• All documents must be self attested
• 2 affidavit that couple wish to marry each other willingly free from threats is required for marriage at court

NOTE: If no objection for the marriage is received within 30 days from the notice, marriage will be registered

• Eligibility age to get married is 21 for male and 18 for female.
• Marriages solemnized under any personal law can be registered.
• A marriage which has already been solemnized can be registered either under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
• The Hindu Marriage Act is applicable in cases where both the husband and the wife are Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs, or in cases where they have converted into any of these religions.
• In case either the husband or the wife or both are not Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs, the marriage is registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954
• The charge will vary if registered after two months of marriage date.

Note: You cannot apply for marriage certificate if you have not attained the age limit as this will be treated as offence.

• Marriage registration is an important legal formality under Law and can be easily completed at the Sub-Registrar Office.
• A marriage which has already been solemnized can be registered.
• Having a marriage registration certificate will help the couple with various formalities like PAN card name change, passport and visa application. The registration of marriages is controlled by the respective State Governments.
• The Hindu Marriage Act 1955 is applicable in cases where both the husband and the wife are Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs, or in cases where they have converted into any of these religions.

• There are not limited but several reasons in receiving spousal benefits, like changing the name, making changes in name in bank account, at work and more.
• Spouse joining for health benefits, many insurance companies will require a marriage certificate to complete the coverage addition.
• Spouse, a foreigner is in need of marriage certificate to gain immigration.
• While couple filing joint taxes.
• If you plan on buying a house and need to apply for a loan, many lenders will ask for a marriage certificate.

NOTE : It is recommended that you have at least two copies at all times – one can be used for personal documentation and the other can be used to show proof of marriage.

• Marriages can be registered either under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
• It is advisable to mention the name of the wife (bride) before and after marriage in the form. Before marriage, the surname usually belongs to father family. And after marriage, the surname of the husband family is adopted. So it is advisable, to mention two names.

NOTE : It is a punishable offense to try with fraudulent documents to get a Marriage certificate
