- One need to apply for a license to the Excise Commissioner, Department of U.P Excise Department.

- Go to the license issuing authority of your area to do the preliminary round of discussion for the area you wanted to obtain the license. If the area proposed is accepted, then the applicant can start his work.
- Applicant shall apply to the issuing authority after the required document and fees requirement are in place.
- Please follow as per the authorities advice on application process. Their might be a format to apply or can be a written one.
- Once the application is received, authorities will verify the details and inform about the successive steps.
- Inspection of place, if required will be done through police department and announcement the fee to be paid will also be informed. Applicant has to pay the fees as advice.
- After all the formalities are successful, applicant will be informed to collect the licence. Collect the license from the authorities.
- Note: U.P government has set rules and regulations to strictly follow. So get the details from officials clearly

Instructions
The Excise & Taxation Department is a revenue department and it is in charge of issuing Liquor Possession Permits.

Need for the Document
- As per government policy, Liquor is sold / served with provision of certificate and licensing. On demand for a temporary need one can avail liquor possession permit for the place he / she needs to serve.
- This permit is for a specific period and is considered as temporary.
- This Permit is required for serving liquor by an individual to his guests on some special occasion or function organized in a Hotel, Community Centre or any other place (booked / used for holding a function).
- Guideline for storing alcohol in homes in U.P - the limit is capped at 1.5 litres of country-made alcohol, 1.5 litres of IMFL and 4 bottles of beer
- If in case of storing more than the allowed capacity, then one should get the permit
- The permit guides the quantity of liquor to be possessed by the license holder for the period.
- Applicant have not been convicted of any offense.
