Uruguay - Renew Passport


Procedure

  1. Go to the National Civil ID office.
  2. Complete an application form for renewal of passport.
  3. Request a hearing.
  4. Present the required documents.
  5. Pay the fee.





Required Documents

  • Current passport
  • Cedula de Identidad (I.D.)(if the person does not have his current passport or it has been lost or stolen)
  • Local police record (clearance letter)
  • One recent picture, in color on white background, passport size

For Uruguayan native citizen and over 18 years old:

  • Identity Card (valid and in good condition and photocopies thereof)
  • Credential Civic or registration receipt with serial number issued by the Electoral Court
  • Certificate of Judicial Background (ex Police Enabling Certificate) issued by the National Investigation Service
  • proof of civil status:
    • if married:
      • Marriage Testimony Starting with less than 30 days issued if widow
      • Testimony Part of Marriage And Testimony of Death Certificate of spouse if divorced
      • Judgment of Divorce or Testimony Part of Marriage with marginal annotation Judgment of Divorce

For Uruguayan natural born and under 18 years old:

  • Testimony of Birth (less than 30 days issued)
  • Identity Card (existing and in good condition, and photocopies thereof)
  • Specific authorization of the parents and attend to them if they are single.
  • evidence of Marriage Part of less than thirty days issued (if married)
  • death certificate of the father (in the absence of father)

  • Common Step: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00 hours.
  • Urgent Procedure. weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00 (quotas limited, depending on demand)

On the Inside:

  • In Departmental Offices Civil ID . (except Las Piedras and Pando)
  • The time for issuing numbers and customer service of the Interior's Offices:
  • Winter: Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 18:00.
  • Summer: Monday to Friday 7:00 to 12:00 hours

Instructions

  • If the holder of the passport is under the age of 18, both parents or legal guardians will have to sign an authorization, for which they will have to present their respective ID, together with a birth certificate of the child or the family book where the child is registered.

Need for the Document

An Uruguayan Passport has only 5 years validity from the date of issuance, and can be renewed only once for five (5) more years, expiring definitely after 10 years. If that is the case of your passport, you can file for a renewing of such booklet, either in person or by mail.
