Apply In-Person:

1. To obtain Low Income Family Grant (Weatherization Assistance) in Alabama, the applicant has to approach his/her state weatherization agency link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the authority officer.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary information in the application form (Incomplete application forms are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the required documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant should make sure that they are eligible for applying for receiving weatherization assistance by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
6. Applicant should attach the photocopies of the necessary documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting.
7. Present the completed application form with appropriate fees and required documents where the officials would start processing your application.
8. After getting the application and income information, applicants local weatherization provider determine weather he/she is eligible to receive weatherization services.

• The applicant must be a resident in the state and he/she must be in need for assistance in energy cost.
• The person who receives supplemental security income or aid to families with dependent children is automatically eligible for WAP.
• If the applicant’s household income is at or below poverty income guidelines, they became eligible.

• Weatherization services are cost-effective, energy efficiency measures for existing residential and multifamily housing with income-eligible residents. These services are derived by using a diagnostic energy audit and building assessment that determines the necessary energy efficiency measures for each unique home.

These services may include:

• Testing heating systems and appliances for combustion safety
• Testing for carbon monoxide and gas leaks
• Monitoring for possible moisture damage or mold infestations
• Checking electrical panels and wiring for safety
• Replacing and/or providing tune-ups for unsafe heating and cooling systems
• Installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
