You are a United Arab Emirates citizen or resident. You hold a United Arab Emirates driving license. If you don’t want to be in massive trouble when driving around with an expired license, please renew it before its expiration date. If you are under 21 years old, you must renew your driving license every one year. If you are older than 21, you will be getting a license that is valid for five years for residents and ten years for UAE citizen. You can renew your driving license through the roads and transport authority (RTA) website, the mobile application, the service centres, the approved optical shops for eye test, or the call centre. To renew your driving license, please follow:

1. Prepare the required documents:
• Your photographs (passport size)
• Your passport copy and original
• Your valid UAE residency visa or resident ID copy and original
• Your current UAE driving license
• Your Emirates ID original
• Your eye test certificate if you are older than 21 years old
2. Renewal by the roads and transport authority (RTA) website

Please click on ‘Services of driver licensing’, then click on ‘License renewal’ to start to check your traffic file and follow its prompt to renew the license. If you are older than 21 years old and are required the eye test certificate that issued by the approved optical shops, it will automatically send to your RTA account and you just scan the required documents and proceed with the applicable payment. You will receive a temporary driving license by printing while waiting for the original license which can be delivered through 2 channels that you are selected at the application time:
• The RTA customer happiness centres or;
• By courier, with an additional fee
3. Renewal by the mobile application
Enter the link to research about the app features. This app is available on App Sore iPhone or Google Play android. Please download and install it on your mobile. Create your account and choose the feature ‘Register and renew your vehicle and driving license’. Follow its prompts to renew your driving license, proceed with the applicable payment, choose the delivery method then wait for the driving license delivery.
4. Renew through the Service Centres
Present at the service centres with the required documents. Follow all of the officer’s guiding to renew your driving license. Please pay all the due traffic fines (if have), choose the delivery method and proceed with the applicable payment.
5. Renew through the optical shops
Present at a suitable optical shop with the required documents. You will be required to pay all the due traffic fines (if have) of be able for license renewal. Perform the applicable payment, choose the delivery method, and receive a temporary driving license while waiting for the original license delivery.
6. Renew through the call centre 8009090
You should contact the call centre and provide RTA with your driving license number. Follow all of officer’s guiding to submit the require documents. The RTA will verify the submitted documents and issue a temporary driving license while waiting for the original license is delivered by the delivery method you chose.
