Uganda - Obtain Import Licence (Permit) for Plants.


Procedure

  1. To obtain an import license for plants to be imported, the applicant has to contact the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and Fisheries.
  2. A written application should be submitted before picking the application forms to the following office address below.
    • The Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, animal industry and Fisheries.
    • (Department of crop inspection and certification)
    • P.O. Box 102 Entebbe.
  3. Fill up the appropriate application form as described by the Ministry of Agriculture industries and fisheries.
  4. Application to import Plant Licence must be made in the name of a person or a corporation and submitted on a standard form. The application form must be submitted together with other required documents and the proposed varieties of plants to be imported which must comply with minimum standards as specified in layout plans of the Plant import process.
  5. After filling the form proceed to pay the prescribed fee
  6. Submit the dully filled in form and attached with pay slip to the Crop inspection Officer in charge or Plant inspector office whose officers shall carryout inspection of your Plants to be imported.
  7. Collect your Plant import Licence certificate from where your application was submitted within 14 days from the date the application was received at ministry of Agriculture industries and fisheries in case there is no rejection.

Eligibility

Any person carrying out Plant export business in Uganda jurisdiction except those who are exempted under seed and Plant Act 2006 are eligible to obtain import license for Plants.

  • License Fee: 5,000 Ugshs
  • Renewal Fee: 5,000 Ugshs

A person who holds an import permit issued under this section to import the item or items in quantities, shall only do so upon such conditions and for such a period as may be stated in the permit.
