Applying process in Tonga for citizen and non-citizen.

A. Apply in-person

1. Applicant shall apply for Police Clearance Certificate in-person with any “Officer-In-Charge of Criminal Record (OIC) At Central Police Station ”.

4. Go to the respective office. Application forms can be obtained from the office on visit. Don’t forget to take the required copy of documents along with originals to the office.
5. Please follow as per authorities guidelines and submit the completed application along with documents. Applicant should pay for any charges, if required as advised.
6. This application will be processed by respective department.
7. The certificate can be collected from the office where applicant applied in person upon notification or issued as per norms.

Applying process - overseas for citizen.

A. Apply through mail(post).

1. Applicant has to apply with the “Officer-In-Charge of Criminal Record (OIC) At Central Police Station ” to obtain the PCC through mail(post).
2. Application forms can be obtained from the office on visit. Once the application is filled in, please attach the completed application, required document and fee paid details.
3. Mail(post) these set of documents to:

• A copy of your passport while living in Tonga.
• A copy of your permit of stay in Tonga, passport number and place of issue as well.
• Proofs of legal stay (copy of passport held during the said period with respective stamp and seal).

Each individual has the right to contact any police station or the judiciary for the purpose of ordering a certificate regarding his or her criminal record, which will be sent according to the law, directly to foreign missions, to missions abroad or to international adoption agencies, depending on the available data.

It is the applicants responsibility to contact the relevant authorities to obtain the necessary police certificates or clearances. Each countrys procedures are different. Applicants may have to apply to more than one level of government or more than one agency - municipal, provincial, state, federal and the police, courts or similar governmental agencies for the police certificate. If a police certificate cannot be obtained from any of the countries on the list, provide a written explanation why and an original letter from the police authority confirming that it will not issue a certificate.

In most cases, you must contact the police or government to ask for a certificate. You may have to:

• You should apply for a police certificate with proof of identity and residence at the local police station or contact Officer in Charge of Criminal Record.
• provide information or documents, such as photographs, fingerprints, or your addresses and dates that you lived in the country or territory, and
• pay a fee.

The application must contain data:

• name of the person, in case of change of name and surname and the original name or the original name or nickname if it is held,
• date of birth,
• identification number,
• place and district of birth,
• State of Birth
• permanent address,
• the alien's country of birth and,
• citizenship,
• sex,
• name and surname of father
• name and maiden name of mother.

A police certificate is an official document issued by police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may or may not have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings.

Police certificate is also known as good citizen certificate, good conduct certificate, police clearance certificate, or judicial record extracts. Applicants may have to submit fingerprints and certain personal information to request a criminal record check, and the police or government agency may charge a fee. If no record found, the police certificate will indicate such.

In many immigration cases you may be requested by relevant Government to present Police Clearance Certificate from another country where you have resided for some time. If you are going through immigration process, you will definitely be asked for such a certificate.

There are currently no specific request forms for a Tongan Police Clearance report.

The person who requires a Tongan Police Clearance report is required to write to the Officer-In-Charge of the Tongan Criminal Record Office together with the following documents:

• a copy of his/her birth certificate;
• the biodata page of their passport and;
• a prepaid courier envelop with a return address which the CRO Tonga could use to send the completed Police Report to the individual;
• 6 Pa'anga(Tonga currency) which is equivilent to US$3.00. Must be paid in Tongan currency.

Alternatively, a relative of the individual who is requesting their police report may appear at the Tongan Criminal Record Office with a copy of the individual's documents listed above on behalf of the individual. The relative may obtain the Police report and send it to the individual.

A police clearance certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record. Police clearance certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, pcc, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Citizenship and Immigration to prevent individuals who possess a risk to Country's security from entering the country.
