Tanzania - Learner Or Provisional Driver License


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. Application for getting Learner or Provisional Driver License is available in Ministry of Transport, Tanzania contact link
  2. Applicant must procure the application form for this service from the Tanzania Ports Authority.
  3. Applicant has to enter all necessary details in the application form.
  4. Applicant must carry photocopies and originals of all documents that are required for completing this procedure.
  5. Documents that is required for completing this procedure is mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. Applicant has to attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting.
  7. Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per authority’s request.
  8. If all above-mentioned procedures were followed properly, the license will be provided within 1 day.
  9. Applicant can collect their license on the same day of applying.

Eligibility

  • Citizens of Tanzania who are above the age of 18 are eligible for getting motor vehicle learner license.
  • Citizens of Tanzania who are above the age of 16 are eligible for getting motor cycle learner license.

  • During the 3 months period for which the learner license is valid, applicant must learn to drive their vehicle and take up test for getting a driving license.

  • If the applicant fails to pass in any one of the tests while undergoing licensing procedure, they have to re-apply for their learner’s license and retake their exam.
  • Learner’s License is valid for only 3 months, thus, the applicant must finish their licensing procedure and get their license within that period, if they didn’t, then, they have to apply for another learner’s license.
