You are Sweden citizens. You are in legal presence at Zambia. When your child is born in Zambia, you as a parent must report it to the Tax Agency of Sweden to get the Sweden citizenship for your child. And the required documents contain the Birth Certificate that is issued from Zambia. To obtain the birth certificate from Zambia, the informant must be a person with legal authority to give information regarding the birth of your child. Such a person giving notice of birth must be either one of the biological parents, a relative, a legal guardian or a person in charge of the hospital where the birth occurred can give notice in default of parents of the child. Please register the birth in the allowed time of 1 month from the birth.

To obtain a Birth Certificate from Zambia, please follow:

1. Prepare the required documents:
   1. Record of Birth as Birth notification is issued by a Health facility (hospital), Baptismal Certificate issued by a church or the under-five clinic card with affidavit can be presented (in case of do not have birth record)
   2. Proof of parent identification as passport, visa or other legal identification documents.
   3. Marriage certificate or proof of marriage. The father’s consent is only required when the parents are not married. In practice, the mother can register her child in her name without the father’s consent.
   4. Proof of legal authority in case of apply by a relative or a legal guardian
   5. Two independent witnesses should complete affidavit independent witness forms, and attach copies of their Zambia National Registration Card or NRC (Just in case the child was born at home within Zambia)
2. Present at the Department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship
   Present the required documents (with two witnesses if born at home). Follow entire the concerned officer’s guiding to dully complete prescribed forms and independent witness form (if applicable). Provide the collected information regard the child and the parents. You can receive the Birth certificate within about 5 days.
