South Dakota - Apply for Convention Adoption


Procedure

Apply by mail

  1. To Apply for Convention Adoption, the applicant has to approach the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Service (Department of Homeland Security) link
  2. The applicant has to download the application form from the following link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the essential documents along with the completed application form to the USCIS mailing address.
  7. The mailing address is mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.
  8. The fee details for this procedure are mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
  9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  10. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a notification through mail or email.
  11. The applicant will get the appointment date through the mail for biometric purposes.
  12. The applicant has to visit the nearest USCIS Application Support Centre on-date of appointment.
  13. The interview and the biometric process will be completed with the Hague convention.
  14. The decision will be made after the process gets completed.
  15. The processing time for applying for Convention Adoption takes up to 30 – 40 days.

  • Any U.S. citizen who is habitually resident in the United States and Seeks to adopt a child who is habitually resident in a Hague Adoption Convention country is eligible to make this application form.

Adoption Service Providers (ASP)
An adoption service provider (ASP) must be accredited, approved, or otherwise authorized to provide intercountry adoption services. Be sure to ask any ASP whether they are U.S. accredited or approved before hiring or paying any money to the provider. You must also identify a primary provider. Only accredited or approved ASPs may act as the primary provider in your case.
