  • Rider Safe is a pre-license training course that teaches the basic and advanced skills necessary for you to ride a motorcycle safely on the road.Training is available at St Agnes, Murray Bridge, Millicent, Barmera, Port Pirie and Whyalla.
  • To enroll in a Rider Safe basic training course you must have a current drivers licence. If you do not have a current drivers license, you must first pass a theory test. The Rider Safe basic course can be paid for at any Service SA customer service centre. Once payment for the course has been made phone 1800 018 300 between 8.30am and 4.30pm with your receipt number to make your booking.
  • After successfully completing the Rider Safe basic course, present the endorsed form at any Service SA customer service centre to apply for a learners permit. The permit is valid for two years and you must carry it at all times whilst riding. You must complete the Rider Safe advanced training course within two years.
  • It is recommended that you have your learners permit for a minimum of six months before you undertake the advanced training course.
  • After successfully completing the Rider Safe advanced course, present your certificate of competency at any Service SA customer service centre to apply for a R-date license.
  • After riding on a restricted R-date license for 12 months, you may apply for an unrestricted R-class license. This license enables you to ride a motorcycle of any power to weight ratio.

If you are planning to learn to ride a motorcycle, you will need to attend Rider Safe training courses. You will also need to ride a learner approved motorcycle. By doing this, you can apply for your motorcycle license.
