South Africa - Renew Registration of Ship


Procedure

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for Renewing Registration of Ship in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the South African Maritime Safety Authority.
  2. The contact details of the South African Maritime Safety Authority can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Visit the office and obtain Form 12 - Application for Renewal of Registration Form as required from the relevant department. Or click here to download: Link
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. Now, complete the application form with appropriate information under relevant sections. Attest it with your signature once completed.
  6. Then, pay the applicable fees as directed to the relevant bank account. Find the information regarding payment at the office.
  7. After paying the fees, attach all the required documents with the completed application and submit it to the relevant official at the office.
  8. Then, the application and attached documents will be forwarded to the concerned authorities for further verification processes.
  9. Once the verification and validation processes are over, the application will be approved and the officials will proceed to take required steps for the Registration renewal process.

Eligibility

  • Any person who holds registration of a ship and it needs a renewal, can apply to get it renewed.
  • The registration holder must possess the Certificate of Registration when applying.

Instructions

  • This application form is common for both commercial and recreational pleasure vessel, so the applicant needs mark with an ‘X’ on whichever option he/she wants to make.
  • Likewise, the applicant should mark the check box as applicable to renewal of registration at the top of the application.
  • Places that are not applicable to the type of vessel that you own should be filled with an N/A.
  • Application form can be typed or completed neatly by hand as applicable to the applicant’s requirement.
  • It is important that the completed form must contain all the information required properly and the form must be filled legibly, in order to get accepted by the Authority.
  • In case the previously registered certificate is unavailable, the applicant have to make a statement in writing about the absence of that certificate.

Need for the Document

  • A Registration Certificate of a Shipping Vessel is required to be renewed whenever it tends to reach its expiry date.
