South Africa - Register as a Second-Hand Goods Dealer Or Recycler


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for registering as a Second-Hand Goods Dealer or Recycler in person, the applicant has to visit the office of Designated Second-hand goods Officer (DSO) in the South African Police Service.
  2. The address and contact details of the office of SAPS can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Visit the nearest office of SAPS and obtain an Application for Registration as a Second-Hand Goods Dealer/Recycler from the relevant department. Or click here to download: Link
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the application form with all the details required under relevant sections properly with absolute legibility and attest it with your signature.
  6. Now, attach all the required documents with the completed form and submit it to the DSO at the office.
  7. Then, application and attached documents will be forwarded for required verification and validation processes.
  8. The DSO will perform the necessary examination processes on the applicant’s information and conduct one or more interactive sessions with the applicant regarding the information.
  9. After the completion of necessary processes, the DSO will perform necessary steps for the Registration process and issue a Registration Certificate to the applicant.

  • Accredited Dealers’ Association Membership Certificate Certified copy

  • Any natural or a juristic person, who does the business of dealing with the Second-hand goods, can apply.
  • Any dealer who wants to involve in the business of recycling controlled metal can also apply.



Fees

An application for registration is free of charge.
