- To Obtain Scuba Diving Permit or License, the applicant has to make the application online via the following link link
- If the applicant is a new user the applicant has to click “Register” and select the type of profile and enter their particulars and register an account.
- If the applicant is an existing user, the applicant has to click “Login” and enter their email address and password to login.
- Next the applicant has to select the type of permit and complete the application.
- the applicant has to all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Review the application and click “Submit”.
- Next the applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
- An acknowledgement of the fee receipt will be sent to the applicant’s registered email.
- Then the application will process further. All the notifications will send to the applicant’s mobile number or email.
- After successful approval the applicant review a permit via email.
- This entire process can be completed within 2 – 3 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
Apply In-Person:
- To Obtain Scuba Diving Permit or License, the applicant has to approach the Department of Forestry Fisheries & the Environment link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
- Once the verification process gets completed, the applicant will get a permit.
- This entire process can be completed within 2 – 3 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility
- Any person who intends to Obtain Scuba Diving Permit or License is eligible to make this application.
Fees
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee R49.00 per month or R92.00 per year.
Validity
- In the case of monthly permits, the permit is valid for a period of one month from the date of issue and in the case of an annual permit one year from the date of issue.

Instructions
- Applicants must complete the application form before submitting it. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Applicants must provide genuine information while applying for this procedure.
- No permit is valid during such closed seasons as stipulated from time to time in the regulations and notices promulgated under the Marine Living Resources Act, 1998(Act No. 18 of 1998).
- Daily catches as stipulated in the regulations must not be exceeded, including by means of taking out more than one permit at the same time.
- Fish caught or collected in terms of this permit may not be sold, bartered, donated or traded.
- This permit is not transferable.
- This permit is valid only if the official receipt, as issued by the South African Post Office, is attached to the permit.
- This permit and the identity document (or passport- foreign visitor only) of the permit holder must at all times be available for inspection purposes, and in particular at the time and location where the activity in respect of which the permit has been issued, is exercised.
- The catch return rock lobster register emailed to the permit holder must be completed punctually and in full in indelible ink before and immediately after each rock lobster fishing effort. Only one catch return entry per line is permitted.
- Failure to comply with any permit condition renders the permit holder liable to a fine and/or prosecution, and /or withdrawal of the permit.

Need for the Document
- Scuba diving is a mode of underwater diving whereby divers use breathing equipment that is completely independent of a surface air supply. As a Recreational Scuba diver, one needs a valid permit.
- Scuba diving is an underwater swimming activity involving the use of self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA)
