Apply In-Person:
- To Get Film Production Incentive, the applicant must go to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Office in South Africa. Contact Link
- The applicant must submit a proposal letter to the respective authorities in the DTI office.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- All the necessary documents must be submitted to respective authorities in the DTI office.
- After verifying the documents completely, if the company qualifies the eligibility requirements set by the DTI board, then the incentives for film production in South Africa will be sanctioned to the applicant.
- There are no fee or charges to file the incentive application.
- The processing time will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
Required Documents
- Written proposal.
- Summary and detailed budget in South African Rand.
- Financial plan, including letters of intent from investors.
- Letter indicating proof of 25% secured.
- Distribution or licence agreement.
- Provisional shooting schedule.
- Co-Producers agreement. (where applicable)
- Copyright Certificate of registration from CIPC.
- Shareholders Certificates of members.
- Certificate of incorporation of the SPCV.
- Appointment of directors of the SPCV.
- Written confirmation that the DTI will be credited in the front of the production.
- Valid B-BBEE Certificate (level one to four) of compliance or affidavit for the SPCV.
- Valid B-BBEE Certificate (level one to three) of compliance or affidavit for the holding company.
- Day one of principal photography call sheet.
- Day one of principal photography progress report.
- Current photography schedule.
- Post-production schedule.
- Other documents requested by the officials. (If applicable)

Eligibility
- Any foreign-based film productions to shoot films and TV productions in South Africa and assists local film producers in the production of local content is eligible to apply for the incentive.
- However, only one entity per production and/or post-production for film, animation and television drama or documentary series is eligible for the incentive.
- Also, the applicant must comply fully with its obligations in terms of the Legal Deposit Act 54 of 1997.
Fees
- No fees or charges are levied for the processing or evaluation of the Incentive fund for Film production applications or claims.
Validity
- The validity period will be intimated to the applicant before sanctioning the fund to the applicant.

Instructions
- Foreign productions can receive between 20% to 25% of the South African spend, capped at 50m Rand.
- Shooting on location in South Africa, the incentive will be calculated as 20% of the Qualifying South African Production Expenditure (QSAPE).

Need for the Document
- After getting the approval from the DTI, the applicant/film production company will receive incentives for their Film Production in the South Africa.
- Shooting on location in South Africa and conducting post-production with a Qualifying South African Post-Production Expenditure (QSAPPE) of R1.5 million in South Africa, the incentive will be calculated at 22.5% of QSAPE and QSAPPE (an additional 2.5%, cumulative 22.5%)
- Shooting on location in South Africa and conducting post-production with a QSAPPE of R3 million and above in South Africa, the incentive will be calculated as 25% of QSAPE and QSAPPE (an additional 5%, cumulative 25%).
- Foreign post-production with QSAPPE of R1.5 million, the incentive is calculated at 22.5% of QSAPPE.
- Foreign post-production with QSAPPE of R3 million and above the incentive is calculated at 25% of QSAPPE.
