Apply In-Person:
- To get admission to school in person, the applicant has to visit a public school or private school of his/her choice.
- The contact details and address information of the Provincial Educational Department for various provinces can be found in the following link: Link
- The applicant can approach the Provincial Educational Department for any information about the schools. The department will help you choose a governmentally established school.
- After choosing a school as per the requirement of the applicant, he/she must visit the respective school for applying to get an admission.
- Go to the school and obtain an application form for admission of your child. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
- Fill the application form as applicable to your requirement and relevant information. Attach all the required documents with the completed Application form and submit it at the respective department at the school.
- After submission, the application form and attached documents will be verified and validated correspondingly by the concerned officials.
- The child might have to attend an interview before admission, however it depends upon the mode of admission of the school.
- After all the necessary processes, the child will be granted admission in accordance with the availability of the seats.

Eligibility

- The person applying may be a South African citizen, a Permanent Residence Permit holder or a Temporary Permit holder.

Instructions
- You must enrol your child in a school between 1 August and 31 September of the year before they start school.
- A Grade R applicant must be at least four years old and turn five or older by 30 June the next year. An applicant for Grade One must be at least five years old and turn six or older by 30 June the next year.
- You can check with the Provincial Education Department if the school you wish to enrol your child in is registered before you make any registrations and payments.

Need for the Document
In order to get an admission for your child in a public or independent school of your choice, you need to follow a prescribed procedure set by the concerned institution that you choose for admission. The above dictated procedure is a general format for admissions in schools, set by the Department of Basic Education of South Africa.
- You have a choice to enrol your child at a public school or at an independent school. Public schools are state controlled and independent schools are privately governed.
- Independent schools must be registered with the provincial education department and public schools must be established by the MEC for Education in the province.
