Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for getting Admission at Mental Health Institution in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Mental Institution or Mental Health Service Centre in his/her province.
2. Mental Health Service Centres in various provinces can be found in the following link: Link
3. Visit the centre and obtain the application form for Admission for a Mental Healthcare user, from the concerned staff or Department (as directed).
4. Make sure you have attached all the documents listed in the ”Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Complete the application form and submit it along with all required documents to the concerned staff at the relevant department.
6. Then, your application and required documents will be scrutinized by the relevant officials and forwarded for further processes.
7. And the officials at the Mental Health Service Centre will look for the availability of a bed for the user and the user will be admitted as soon as a bed is available.

• Any person having a adverse mental condition, can apply to get admitted into a public mental health institution.
• Only a spouse, next of kin, partner, associate, parent or guardian of a mental healthcare user may make an application.

• The cost for the service depends on two conditions. Where a patient is admitted involuntarily, that is, the person is so sick that they need medical attention without their consent, the service is free.
• If a patient voluntarily consents and request the service, they are liable for payment in terms of the Uniform Patient Fees Schedule.

• If spouse, next of kin, partner, associate, parent or guardian of the user is unwilling, incapable or not available to make such an application, the application may be made by a healthcare provider.

• If your mental condition is regarded as a threat to society, a court can order you to be committed to a mental institution with or without your consent.

• Before applying to get admitted, the user should be taken to a Doctor or Clinical Psychiatrist for an assessment and examination.
