South Africa - Enroll in Automotive Investment Scheme (AIS)


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for enrolling in Automotive Investment Scheme in person, the person has to visit the office of Department of Trade, Industry and Corporation.
  2. The address and contact details of the DTIC can be found in the following link: Link Refer to the bottom of the page.
  3. Visit the office of DTIC and get the application form for enrolling in Automotive Investment Scheme as applicable from the relevant department.
  4. You can also use the following links and download the form: For Components manufacturers - Link and For Light Motor Vehicle Manufacturer - Link
  5. Complete the form as required with relevant details. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  6. After completing the application form, take a printout and attach all the documents required for the process with the completed form.
  7. Then, proceed to submit the package to the relevant authority at the office for further processes. Make the payment as necessary.
  8. After all the processes have got completed, the concerned authorities will proceed to make the arrangements for the enrolment process.
  9. The applicant can obtain any information regarding the progress of his/her request, from the office where the application has been made.



Apply through courier

  1. To apply for enrolling in Automotive Investment Scheme through courier, the applicant has to lodge the application to the postal address of the Department of Trade, Industry and Corporation office.

  3. Download the application form: For Components manufacturers - Link and For Light Motor Vehicle Manufacturer - Link
  4. Complete the form as required with relevant details. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. After completing the application form, take a printout and attach all the documents required for the process with the completed form.
  6. Then, proceed to courier the package to the relevant authority at the address mentioned above, for further processes.
  7. After all the processes have got completed, the concerned authorities will proceed to make the arrangements for the enrolment process.
  8. The applicant can obtain any information regarding the progress of his/her request, from the office where the application has been made.

Eligibility

  • An existing light motor vehicle manufacturing enterprise that has achieved, or can demonstrate that it will achieve, within three (3) years, a minimum of 50 000 annual units of production per plant, can apply.
  • A component manufacturing enterprise that can prove that a contract is in place and/or a contract has been awarded and/or a letter of intent has been received for the manufacture of components to supply into the light motor vehicle manufacturer supply chain locally and/or internationally, is eligible.
