Apply Online:
- To Apply for Transfer Duty, the applicant must go to the South African Revenue Services’ (SARS) e-Filing portal website. Online Link
- On the given link, the applicant must register themselves by entering the necessary details asked on the webpage.
- After registering, the applicant must “Log in” with the newly created “Username and Password”
- If already registered in SARS, the applicant can directly “Login” using the Login credentials. Login Link
- After logging in, the applicant must select the “Duties & Levies” option, and then must select the “Tax payer” from the list given.
- The applicant must select the “Register” from the side menu options under “Transfer Duty” and it will open the “REGISTRATION FOR TRANSFER DUTY” screen.
- The applicant must enter all the details and select the “Register” option.
- Then the Bank Details will be asked on the upcoming page, and after entering the details, the applicant must select the “Submit to SARS” option, and now the application for transfer duty will be sent to the SARS officials for verification.
- If the application is verified, the applicant might or might not to be asked to submit the supporting documents on the e-Filing page.
- Therefore, while doing the property transfer, the applicant must collect all the supporting documents of the property transfer.
- There is no fee for filing the Transfer Duty on the e-Filing portal.
- The Transfer Duty can be applied immediately on the e-Filing portal.
- Note: At any instance, if the applicant couldn’t access the e-filing portal, they can approach the nearest SARS Excise Branch office, and the issue will solved/assisted for the applicant. Contacts and Address Link
Required Documents
- All the supporting documents related to the transfer of property must be saved by the applicant. But the supporting documents must be submitted only if the SARS officials request for the documents, and it must upload on the e-Filing portal.

Eligibility
- The individual acquiring the property is responsible for the Transfer Duty Tax.
Fees
- There is no fee for filing the Transfer Duty on the e-Filing portal.
Validity
- The Duty Transfer tax must be filed within 6 months from the date of acquiring the property.
- If the Duty Transfer tax is not filed within 6 months of acquiring, then interest rate will be levied for the applicant.

Need for the Document
