Apply Online:

1. To Apply for Social Grants Online, the applicant must visit the South African Social Security Agency’s website Online Link
2. In the given link, the applicant must enter the mobile number, and click “Send SMS” button.
3. Now, the applicant will receive a 6-digit OTP to the mobile number.
4. The OTP number must be entered on the web page, and it will be verified.
5. Then on the pop-up page, the applicant must read Declaration and Consent Document, and “Agree to the content of the Declaration and Consent Document”.
6. Also, the applicant must read and understand the “You and Your Special COVID-19 SRD Grant document”, and should agree to the contents of the “You and Your Special COVID-19 SRD Grant document”.
7. On the next page, personal detail must be entered.
8. Then, the applicant must give the “Bank Details.”
9. After verifying the details of the applicant, the Social Grant will be issued to the applicant.
10. If the application is successful, the applicant will receive the Grant sanction confirmation message to the mobile number.
11. There is no fee for submitting the “Social Grant” application.
12. The processing time will be given on the notification released by the South African government.
    

APPLICATION VIA WHATSAPP

1. To Apply for Social Grants Online, the applicant must send message to the WhatsApp number “082 046 8553”.
2. Then, the applicant must provide personal details as prompted by the chat.
3. Later, the applicant will receive a Reference number, an OTP number and website link.
4. The applicant must click on the link, and then enter the “OTP Number”.
5. Then, the applicant should verify and provide surname, ID number, and Applicant confirm details as per details provided on the chat.

The eligibility requirements set by the South African government to sanction the social grant are, the applicant must be:

• A South African Citizens, Permanent Resident or Refugee registered on the Home Affairs database or a holder of a special permit under the Special Angolan Dispensation, the Lesotho Exemption Permit dispensation or the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation, or an asylum seeker whose section 22 permit or visa is valid or was valid on 15 March 2020.
• Currently residing within the borders of the Republic of South Africa.
• Above the age of 18 and below the age of 60.
• Unemployed
• Not receiving any adult social grant in respect of himself or herself.
• Not receiving an unemployment insurance benefit and does not qualify to receive an unemployment insurance benefit.
• Not receiving a stipend from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme or other financial aid.
• Not receiving any other government COVID-19 response support.
• Not a resident in a government funded or subsidised institution.
  

There is no fee for submitting the “Social Grant” application.

The validity period of the grant will be intimated to the applicant while sending the confirmation message after sanction.
