Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Relative Visa, the applicant must visit the South African Embassy or Consulate in the country that they are residing currently. List of SA embassies
2. The application form can be downloaded from the official VFS global website linked here. Application Form Link
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The application form must be filed with necessary details.
5. Later, the application form and all the necessary documents should be submitted to the officials at the South African embassy.
6. The application approval is entirely based on the visa officer decision.
7. If the visa officer is satisfied with the details provided and the supporting documents submitted by the applicant, then the relative visa will be approved, and the decision will be conveyed to the applicant.
8. The non-refundable application fee of R2870.00 must be paid while submitting the visa application, and the proof of payment must also be attached along with the necessary documents.
9. The processing time to get the relative visa permit will take anywhere between 6-10 weeks, or sometimes more than that depending on the applicant’s profile.

• A valid passport which expires in no less than 30 days after expiry of the intended date of departure. (At least Two unused/blank visa pages must be there in the passport)
• A vaccination certificate.
• A cash deposit equivalent value to a return or onward ticket. (Not required for the spouse or dependent children of South African citizen/permanent resident).
• A statement and/or documentation confirming the purpose and duration of your visit and proof that the applicant is an immediate family member of a South African citizen/permanent resident.

  • Proof of kinship for others.
• A police clearance certificate from each country in which you resided for 12 months or longer since the age of 18 years.
• Medical and radiology reports for yourself and all family members accompanying. (Pregnant women and children younger than 12 years need not submit these reports)
• Proof of South African citizenship or permanent residence of the relative in South Africa in the form of an identity document or passport.
• Proof availability of a minimum amount of R8500 per month per person for living expenses. (This does not apply for a spouse or dependent minor child of a South African citizen/ permanent resident)
• A yellow fever vaccination certificate if that person travelled or intends travelling from or transiting through a yellow fever endemic area.
• Proof of payment of the applicable fee.
