South Africa - Apply for National Home Builders Registration


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for National Home Builders Registration, the applicant must go to the National House Builders Registration Council Office in South Africa. Contact Link
  2. The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the NHBRC office, or else it can also be downloaded from the official website linked here. Application Form Link
  3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. The application form must be filled with necessary details, and along with the required documents, it should be submitted to the officials at the NHBRC department.
  5. The application will be verified by the officials, and the registration invoice will be issued to the applicant.
  6. After that the applicant needs to pay the Registration Fee at the NHBRC bank. The fee payment status will be updated to the applicant via SMS.
  7. After the payment, the applicant needs to take “Technical Assessment Test” in order to get the Registration Certificate.
  8. Therefore, after paying the fees, the applicant needs to book “Technical Assessment Test” date and need to attend the exam.
  9. The exam results will be sent via registered number. After getting the exam results, the applicant needs to pay the Annual Membership Fee.
  10. The “National Home Builders Registration” will be confirmed by the NHBRC officials.
  11. The code of conduct, approval letter, and the Registration Certificate will be mailed to the applicant by the NHBRC department.
  12. The fee details of the registration are given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  13. The registration will take 5 working days, however the complete process of registration will take quite a lot of time. Each step of the process will be updated timely to the applicant via SMS.


Apply Online:

  1. To Apply for National Home Builders Registration, the applicant can also register using the NHBRC’s official website linked here. Online Link
  2. On the webpage, the applicant must select the “Register a Profile” button. On the next page, the applicant needs to give all the basic details asked on the portal.
  3. After entering the details, the profile must be created by selecting the “Register” option.
  4. With the given details in the “Register” section, the applicant must again go back to the main page. Online Link
  5. Now, the applicant must login using the given credentials on the “Login” page.
  6. On the “Login” page, the applicant must select the “Registration” Icon.
  7. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  8. On the “Registration” page, the applicant needs to give all the necessary details.
  9. After completing the application form, all the documents must be uploaded on the portal.
  10. Then the application must be submitted. Later, the applicant will receive the Acknowledgement notification via Email and SMS.
  11. The Registration invoice will be mailed to the applicant’s email.
  12. After that the applicant needs to pay the Registration Fee either at the NHBRC bank, Elf, or at the ATM.
  13. The fee payment status will be sent to the applicant via SMS.
  14. After the payment, the applicant needs to take “Technical Assessment Test” in order to get the Registration Certificate.

Required Documents

  • Application Form Link
  • A valid Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) registration certificate.
  • Certified copies of ID/Passports of all Members/Directors/Trustees/Partners/ Sole proprietors of the business. (Copies must have been certified within the last 3 months)
  • A certified copy of the passport and work permit is required. (If a person is not South African)
  • A stamped letter from the bank confirming the applicant’s banking details or a copy of a cancelled blank cheque. (Not be older than 3 months).
  • Proof of residence. (Not be older than 3 months)
  • Appointment letter of the Technical Manager including confirmation of their technical ability and a written acceptance of his/her appointment. (This is only required should the Technical Manager not be part of the Managing members of the company or a Sole Trader).
  • Trust Resolution / Deed of Trust (TRUST ONLY).
  • Signed consent letter for credit check.
  • Certified copy of Partnership agreement letter (PARTNERSHIP ONLY).
  • Constitution of Co-Operative limited to be supplied (CO-OPERATIVE ONLY).

Eligibility

  • Any individual in the business of building homes is eligible to apply for the National Home Builders Registration application.




Fees

  • Initial application fee - R745.61 (Non-refundable)
  • An annual membership fee - R526.32 (Every year)




Validity

  • The National Home Builders Registration Certificate is valid for 5 years.
  • However, every year the registration must be renewed by paying the Annual Membership Fee to the NHBRC.

  • The National Home Builders Registration Certificate is by law a compulsory document for individual involved in the Home Building Business.
