South Africa - Apply for Municipal Services


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Municipal services in person, the applicant must visit the office of the local Municipality in his/her province.
  2. The contact and address details of the Municipalities in various provinces can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Find the contact information link of any local municipality as applicable to your location under your province.
  4. Visit the municipality office and get an application form to apply for any Municipal service according to the requirement.
  5. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  6. Fill the application form as applicable to your requirement and relevant information. Attach all the required documents with the completed Application form and submit it at the municipality office.
  7. After submission, the application form and attached documents will be verified and validated correspondingly by the concerned officials.
  8. Once all the necessary processes got over, the applicant is provided with the service which he/she applied for.

  • The person applying must have a proof of identity and residence.

  • Municipalities deliver services such as water and electricity. Government provides free basic municipal services to poor households at no charge.
  • These services are provided by municipalities and include a minimum amount of electricity, water and sanitation that is enough to cater for the basic needs of a poor household. The services may not be in place yet in all municipalities.
