Apply Online:

1. To Apply for Employee Tax Certificate (IRP5), the applicant must go to the South African Revenue Services’ (SARS) e-Filing portal website. Online Link
2. On the given link, the applicant must register themselves by entering the necessary details asked on the webpage.
3. After registering, the applicant must “Log in” with the newly created “Username and Password”
4. If already registered in SARS, the applicant can directly “Login” using the Login credentials.
5. On the main web page, the applicant must select the “Returns Issued” option on the left side menu.
6. Then the “Personal income tax” (ITR12)” option from the drop-down menu must be selected.
7. The applicant must select the already requested tax year on the list given on the page, or the applicant should select the “tax year” option on the top right and then should request the return.
8. Since the “IRP5 – Form” should have been submitted to SARS by the employer and it must be available for the tax return.
9. Now the applicant can access the “Employee Tax Certificate – IRP5” on the portal.
10. In case of “non-availability” due to technical glitch, the applicant must refresh and select the “IRP5” data box, and then select the “ok” option to submit the request.
11. Now the returns will be updated and the applicant can generate the “Employment Tax Certificate” on the portal.
12. There is no fee for applying for the Employee Tax Certificate on the e-Filing portal.
13. The Employee Tax Certificate can be applied and accessed immediately on the e-Filing portal.

Note: At any instance, if the applicant couldn’t access the e-filing portal, they can approach the nearest SARS Excise Branch office, and the issue will solved/assisted for the applicant. Contacts and Address Link
