South Africa - Apply for Consular Services


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for consular services in person, the applicant has to visit the office of any South African Diplomatic Mission in his/her nationality.
  2. The location and contact links for various South African Representation Abroad can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Find the office of any South African Diplomatic Mission as applicable to your nationality and location.
  4. Visit the respective office and make request for the format and procedure of the Consular service as applicable to your requirement.
  5. Make sure that you have all the documents required for the particular consular service that you opt for.
  6. Complete the required format of application and do as directed by the officials at the office.
  7. Submit the completed format and required documentation to the concerned authority at the office.
  8. Complete the required payment (if any) as required. Now, your application and the required documents will be sent to the concerned officials for verification and validation.
  9. Once all the processes got over, your request will be approved and you will be provided with the service that you seek.

Instructions

  • All enquiries relating to applications submitted for visas, work/residence permits, SA Passports, SA Birth, Marriage, Death certificates at SA Diplomatic Missions abroad, must be referred to the SA Diplomatic Mission where applications were submitted.
  • All enquiries must be directed directly to the Mission where applications were launched or to the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa directly with reference numbers received upon submission of the applications. Department of International Relations and Cooperation has no control over the time it takes to issue a new passport or other civic documents.
  • Depending on the service required a valid form of identification may be requested. You may wish to first call to determine the processes / documents that will be required.
  • In South Africa, the mandated Department dealing with the above mentioned Civic and Immigration enquiries is the Department of Home Affairs.

  • Consular Services works in close collaboration with the Consular Sections of the South African Diplomatic Missions (High Commissions, Embassies, and Consulates-General) abroad and the services listed are often performed through or in conjunction with our Diplomatic Missions abroad.
  • If you need Consular assistance whilst abroad, you can contact the Consular Section of the South African Diplomatic Mission in the country directly.
