Slovenia - Obtain Marriage Certificate

  1. You can claim an extract of marriage for yourself in person at the Registry Office. If you are obtaining the certificate for another person, you need his/her written authorisation. Note: The authorisation must contain information about the authorising person as well as information on the authorised person and authorising person's signature.
  2. You may use the contact information given below to inquire where can you submit your application. When you submit your request at the Registry Office make sure that you have provided these important details which will make searching for the record easier:
    1. name of spouses
    2. date and place of marriage
  3. Pay for the certificate.

You may use the link provided under "Office Locations & Contacts" to get in touch with the nearest Embassy of Slovenia in the country you are currently staying. The Embassy's consular section will be able to help process your request to obtain a copy of a marriage certificate in Slovenia.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

The marriage is proved by the extract from the central register.

The extract contains the information on both spouses and the place and date of marriage. If the marriage was dissolved, this is evident as well.

The extract contains the following data:

  • date and place of marriage;
  • personal names, unique personal identification numbers and date and place of birth of both partners;
  • surnames of both partners after the marriage;
  • indication of dissolution of the marriage due to divorce, annulment or death.
