Senegal - Obtain a Certificate of Loss


Procedure

  1. To obtain a Certificate of Loss, applicants will need to go to the police station or gendarmerie in the area where the document was lost or stolen or in the locality where the applicant resides.
  2. The establishment of a certificate of loss does not require the provision of specific documents.
  3. The statement of loss may be oral or written and the applicant must simply provide a stamp of 100 FCFA.
  4. Your request to obtain a Certificate of Loss will be processed within the day.

Eligibility

  • Anyone who have lost an important document due to theft or lost may obtain a Certificate of Loss.
  • The interested party may send another person in his place. This person will present his national identity card which will be recorded by the issuing officer.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

You will often need to present a Certificate of Loss when you are applying for a duplicate of important documents like passport and IDs.

The Certificate of Loss certifies that the documents is indeed lost.

Note: The Certificate of Loss does not replace the documents lost (like passport, civil status certificate or ID). You will still need to apply for a new one after you have obtain a Certificate of Loss.
