Scotland - Renew TV License


Procedure

Apply Online

  1. To Renew TV License in Scotland, the applicant must make the application online via the following link link
  2. The applicant must click “Pay” and click “Renew”
  3. Then the applicant has to enter the following details and click “Sign In”
  4. TV Licence or Customer number
  5. Last name (as it appears on the TV Licence)
  6. Postcode of the licensed address
  7. Then select payment option and submit the application.
  8. The fee details are mentioned in Fees section of this page.
  9. After successful payment the applicant will receive their license via email or by post.
  10. This entire process can be completed within one or two days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

  • In Scotland, a TV license is a legal requirement for anyone who watches or records live TV programmes on any channel, or downloads or watches BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer, on any device. This applies to both homes and businesses.

  • It's important to note that it's a criminal offence to watch or record live TV without a TV license. If the applicant is caught, he/she could be fined up to £1,000.

  • There are some exceptions to the TV license requirement. For example, the applicant doesn’t need a TV license if he/she only ever watch on demand programmes on any TV service apart from BBC iPlayer. The applicant also doesn't need a TV license to watch videos or clips on demand on YouTube.
