Scotland - Obtain License to Use Music on the Radio


Procedure

Apply Online

  1. To Obtain License to Use Music on the Radio, the applicant must make the application online by using the following link link
  2. The applicant must click “Start Now” which will directed to PRS for Music website.
  3. Next the applicant must click “Licenses” and select “Radio Broadcasting”.
  4. In that the applicant must select the type of license and click download.
  5. It will direct to the login page. In that the applicant must click Sign In and enter Email and Password to signing in.
  6. If the applicant is a new user click “Get Started” and create a new account.
  7. Then the applicant must fill he necessary details and upload the necessary documents, that are mentioned in “Required Documents” section of this page.
  8. Then the applicant must pay the prescribed fee to purchase the license. The fee details are also mentioned in Fees section of this page.
  9. Then the applicant will receive the license via post or email.
  10. This entire process can be completed within 2-3 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility

The applicant needs a licence if they are:

  • Commercial radio stations that are broadcasting on AM, FM, DAB, cable, or satellite, including online simulcasts.




Fees

  • The licence fees are calculated as a percentage of the station’s annual Net Broadcasting Revenue (NBR), plus an annual royalty fee.




Validity

  • The validity of license is one year and must be renewed annually.
