Apply By Phone

  1. To Get Help for Domestic Abuse, the applicant has to contact Scotland's Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline 0800 027 1234 (24-hour service), 020 7008 0151, From overseas: +44 (0)20 7008 0151
  2. The applicant has to provide the necessary details to the concerned officer.
  3. A trained professional will give the applicant free advice on what to do next. They will:
  4. Find the applicant a safe place to stay
  5. Take the applicant seriously
  6. Not think of the applicant’s situation as a 'family matter' or cultural or religious practice
  7. Give the applicant details of support organisations that can help him/her, if that's what he/she wants.
  8. The fee for getting support for Domestic Abuse is free of cost.
  9. The entire process can be completed within a day or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

It occurs when one person in the relationship seeks to establish power and control over the other through various forms of abuse.

Domestic abuse can take various forms, including:

  • Physical Abuse: Physical violence or harm, such as hitting, slapping, kicking, choking, or using weapons.
  • Emotional and Psychological Abuse: Verbal insults, humiliation, intimidation, threats, controlling behavior, isolation, gaslighting (manipulating someone to question their own reality), or undermining self-esteem.
  • Sexual Abuse: Forcing or coercing a partner into unwanted sexual activities, sexual assault, or rape.
  • Financial Abuse: Controlling or limiting a partner's access to financial resources, preventing them from working, or exploiting their finances for personal gain.
  • Digital Abuse: Using technology to control, monitor, stalk, harass, or intimidate a partner, such as through constant texting, tracking their online activities, or sharing explicit or private content without consent.
