Apply By Post

1. To Change or Update Your Patent, the applicant must post their application to Intellectual Property Office link
2. The applicant must download the application form from the following link which is provided below
3. Request to correct or update a name or address – link
4. Appointment or change of agent – link
5. Application to record a change of ownership – link
6. The applicant must fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
7. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
8. The applicant must attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
9. Post all the documents with the completed form to the Intellectual Property Office.
10. The mailing address is provided in “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.
11. The fee for change or update the applicant’s patent is free of cost. But if the applicant is applying for change of owner, they must pay £50.
12. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
13. All applications are processed within a reasonable time, having regard to the circumstances of each application, including the completeness of information and documents submitted to the authority by the applicant.
14. IPO will update the register if the change is straightforward and there are no objections (if relevant). They will send confirmation to the applicant.
15. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
