Scotland - Apply for Shooting License


Procedure

Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Shooting License, the applicant has to approach the Police Scotland link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer or it can be downloaded from the following link link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
  6. Depending on the type of license, a site assessment may be required to evaluate the safety and security of the premises where the explosives will be stored, manufactured, or used.
  7. Outline the safety measures the applicant will put in place to prevent accidents and ensure the safe handling of explosives.
  8. Ensure that the applicant’s business and activities comply with all relevant safety and security regulations concerning explosives.
  9. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  10. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  11. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  12. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  13. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  14. The HSE may conduct background checks on applicants, especially for high-risk activities involving explosives.
  15. If the application is successful, the applicant will be issued a Shooting License or Firearms Certificate.
  16. This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility

The applicant is eligible to apply for a shooting license in Scotland if the applicant meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • The applicant must be at least 14 years old.
  • The applicant must have a valid government-issued ID.
  • The applicant must have a clean criminal record.
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate that he/she has the necessary knowledge and skills to safely handle firearms.
  • The applicant must have a legitimate reason for requiring a shooting license.
