Scotland - Apply for Incapacity Benefit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Incapacity Benefit, the applicant has to approach Department for work and pension (DWP) link
  2. The applicant can begin the application for PIP by calling the DWP's PIP application line at 0800 917 2222 (textphone: 0800 917 7777). The line is open from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm.
  3. The Applicant should gather all the required documents to support the applicant calm before calling.
  4. After calling, The DWP representative will guide the applicant through the application process and complete the form on behalf of the applicant.
  5. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. The completed application form will be sent from the Department of Work and pension with a return envelope.
  7. The applicant is required to provide supporting evidence, such as medical reports, diagnostic test results, or statements from healthcare professionals who are familiar with his/her condition. Submit these documents to the DWP to strengthen his/her claim.
  8. The applicant has to send both the application form and the required documents in the given envelope.
  9. There were no fees associated with applying for incapacity benefits in Scotland.
  10. Once the application is received, the DWP may schedule a face-to-face assessment to evaluate the applicant eligibility for PIP. This assessment is carried out by an independent healthcare professional and helps determine the level of support the applicant may be entitled to.
  11. After the assessment, the DWP will review all the information and evidence, including the assessment report, and make a decision on his/her PIP claim.
  12. The applicant will be notified of the decision in writing, including details of the awarded benefit amount and the duration of the award.
  13. This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
