Scotland - Apply for Disabled Student Allowances (DSAs)


Procedure

Apply In Person:

  1. To Apply for a Disabled Student Allowance (DSAs), the applicant has to approach the following link Student Finance Account link
  2. The applicant can download the application from the following link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee mentioned by the concerned officer.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. Once the application has been processed, the applicant will be invited to a needs assessment. This assessment will help identify the support needed to succeed in studies.
  10. The applicant will receive a support plan. This could include equipment, software, or support workers.
  11. Once the application got approved, the applicant will get a notification.
  12. The applicant will get a payment to cover any additional costs related to the disability.
  13. This entire process can be completed within 14-15 day or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • Specific learning difficulty, for example dyslexia or ADHD
  • Mental health condition, for example anxiety or depression
  • physical disability, for example if the applicant has to use crutches, a wheelchair or a special keyboard
  • Sensory disability, for example if the applicant is visually impaired, deaf or have a hearing impairment
  • Long-term health condition, for example cancer, chronic heart disease or HIV
  • An undergraduate or postgraduate student (including Open University or distance learning)
