Procedure

To obtain the Police Clearance Certificate:

  • Make a copy of every page of your passport and sign every page with blue pen.
  • Once youre in the building, ask where the Clearance Office is.
  • You will be asked to:
    • Fill out a form
    • Bring your Original Passport
    • Submit a copy of your passport
    • Take your picture
    • Take your fingerprints
    • Pay the required fee

  • Valid Passport which should be original.
  • Proof of residence.
  • A set of three completed Personal Particulars Form if the applicant has not stayed at the present address for the last one year.
  • Proof of identity of the applicant

A Police clearance may be obtained from Office of Civil Registry (Conservatoria do Registro Civil), Ministry of Interior, Sao Tome. The applicant should provide a national identity card number. This document should state whether or not any criminal charges have been made against you and should be certified with a stamp and/or signature.

Persons living abroad must apply for a police clearance certificate directly from the Office of Civil Registry (Conservatoria do Registro Civil), Ministry of Interior, Sao Tome.

The applicant should provide a national identity card number.of the Sao Tome and Principe.

Residents: Apply in person.

Non-residents: Apply to the embassy in your country of residence.

Police clearance Certificate (Certido de registo criminal) is an important document which serves as a proof that the person has no criminal record or previously involved in criminal, breach of trust cases or violation of law both in his home country and during his residence in Sao Tome and Principe. Both locals and expats can obtain this certificate.

Application for Police Clearance Certificate should be accompanied by:

  • Original Passport (& additional booklets if any)
  • Photocopy of inside cover pages and other relevant pages of the passport.
  • One passport size photograph.

Note: In case, where the passport was issued from another passport issuing authority, PCC can be issued only after receipt of confirmation from that authority.

A police clearance certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record. Police clearance certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, pcc, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Citizenship and Immigration to prevent individuals who possess a risk to Country's security from entering the country.

Police certificates are also known as a penal clearance certificate in some countries.

The certificate must cover the period of time from the issue date back to the age you ceased to be a minor, or must cover the whole time you were in a country.

For immigration purposes a police certificate is deemed to be valid for 12 months from the issue date.
