Need for the Document

[edit]

If you are planning on fishing recreationally in Queensland it is important that you are fully aware of the rules that apply to the area you are intending to fish. Restrictions can vary (either interstate, or even on the opposite side of a river) so ensuring you are familiar with the rules imposed to help protect fisheries resources and save you from receiving a fine.

You are not required to possess a licence to be an angler but you must know which fishing equipment you are allowed to use and catch limits.

Fishing in stocked dams

Before you go fishing in any of Queensland's dams, you must check first whether you need a permit. The permit you need is called the Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP). The permit covers access to all 32 dams and allows you to fish with fishing lines only. You only need one permit per couple (married or de facto), and if you are under 18 you don't need one at all.
