Quebec - Apply for Moped Or Motorized Scooter License

  • Go to an SAAQ service center to apply for moped or motorized scooter license.
  • You must pass all the conditions stated above in order to acquire a license.

Eligibility

Basic requirements:

  • Minimum age: 14 (The Written consent of person with parental authority form must be completed if an applicant is a minor);
  • Fill out the SAAQ's Declaration of Illness or Impairment form and meet the medical requirements;
  • Pass the SAAQ's vision test;
  • Passing a special driving course;
  • Pass the knowledge test (consult the costs for obtaining a license for various classes of driver's license).

Validity

A moped or motorized scooter license is valid for one year.

Need for the Document

A moped is a passenger vehicle having two or three wheels and a maximum speed of 70 km/h, equipped with an electric motor or a motor having a cylinder capacity of not more than 50 cc with an automatic transmission.

Operating a moped or scooter requires a Class 6D license. Holders of all other classes (other than Class 8) of driver's license or probationary license are authorized to operate a moped or scooter.

The holder of a moped or motorized scooter (Class 6D) license cannot drive any other vehicles.
