- Vehicle owners are required to renew their vehicle registeration for their vehicles with the Ministry of Interior (MOI) once the registration period of three years has lapsed. Registration is mandatory for both new and used vehicles.
- The vehicle registration should have expired for one to make a registration renewal application.
- Individuals and companies can renew their vehicle registration online through the Ministry of Interior (MOI) website.

Step 1 : Vehicle Inspection
- Your first step is to have your vehicle inspected by WOQOD Vehicles Inspection (FAHES) which is the only Traffic Department authorized mandatory periodical vehicle inspection company in Qatar.
- Its advisable to do this thirty days prior to the expiration date
- You should present your vehicle for inspection in one of FAHES inspection stations. Details of FAHES inspection station locations can be found through the following link: Details on FAHES vehicle inspection stations
- Present the required documents for inspection to the FAHES officials. These documents include:
- The vehicle registration card (istamara) or;
- Traffic Department official document with the relevant detail or;
- A good quality clear photo copy of both sides of the vehicle registration card (istamara)
- Proceed to pay the required inspection fees. Details of the inspection fees can be found through the following link: inspection fee at FAHES permanent stations
- Once you have done this the vehicle will go through a series of inspections. This usually takes a period of 10 minutes to complete.
- You will be issued will a pass certificate if your vehicle passes the technical inspection test .You should submit this to the Traffic Department when making your renewal application
- The PASS certificate for the technical inspection test is valid for thirty days.
Step 2: Make application for vehicle registration renewal
- For one to renew registration for their vehicle , one has to make an application for registration to the General Directorate of Traffic of the Ministry of Interior (MOI). You can do this by visiting the General Directorate of Traffic Headquarters at Madinet Khalifa (Google map location, or any of the Traffic Service Centers.
- Here you will be issued with an application form to fill and complete. You can also download ,print and fill out the application form from the MOI Website through the following link: Vehicle Licensing Form
- Fill in the required information indication that is a renewal application for vehicle registration.
- You are to bring your car along with all the required documents to the MOI Traffic department. These documents include:
- Identity card or passport
- Insurance document valid for one year
- Completed application form
- Proof of successful vehicle inspection from WOQOD (FAHES).
- Residents who are not government employees should provide signed letter from sponsor or company (personal sponsorship) or a copy of the establishment ID (company sponsorship).
- The Traffic department officials will inspect your application and vehicle to see if everything is in order.
- If everything is in order you will be required to pay for the renewal vehicle registration application. The renewal fees vary depending on the type of vehicle. Details of the fees applicable can be found through the link: Renewal Fee details
- After this your renewal for vehicle registration process will be finalized by the Traffic department officials and you will be issued with a new renewed vehicle registration card (istamara)
Apply Online
- The first step is to log in with your smartcard to the e-services portal of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) by clicking on the MOI Services tab and selection the E-services option.
- If you do not have an account with the MOI e-portal, you have to register for the services using your smart card.
- Once logged in, click on " Traffic Services” on the dashboard then click on the " Renew Vehicle Registration” link.
- Fill up all the required information in the online application form and upload the required documents.
- Identify the search method for the vehicle and Select the vehicle you need to renew the registration for.
- Choose your preferred delivery option of the renewed vehicle registration card. You may collect the card from the NTDD offices for free, or pay a fee to collect it from a post office, or have the card delivered.
- Enter your cell phone number to receive SMS notification when the card is ready.
- Review information you provided to ensure that the information provided is okay.
- If everything is okay you can move on to pay the required renewal fees. This is done by Clicking on the “Next” tab to move to the “Payment Details” page, then click on “Pay” to make the payment.
- Pay appropriate fees using a debit or credit card and submit your application.
- You will be notified once the processing of your application is complete.
- This takes a period of between three to five days for your renewed vehicle registration card to be ready.
Required Documents
- The following documents should be provided for at the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Traffic.
- Identity card or passport
- Proof of car insurance, which should be valid for at least one year for all vehicles, or more than one year for new vehicles.
- Completed application form
- Proof of successful vehicle inspection from WOQOD (FAHES).
- Residents who are not government employees should provide signed letter from sponsor or company (personal sponsorship) or a copy of the establishment ID (company sponsorship).

Eligibility
- Registered vehicle owners whose vehicle’s registration certificate is due to expire are eligible to renew their registration their with the Ministry of Interior.
- The vehicle registration should be expired.
- Vehicle should pass the technical inspection test “in case it was manufactured three (3) years prior to current date”
Fees
- A registration fees differ depending on the vehicle type.
- You may also pay an additional fee to customize the plate number.

Validity
- The validity period is three years
- A car is due for inspection if the car is 3 years old and at the same time it is due registration renewal.

Need for the Document
- Vehicle registration is a requirement by the state. Its purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners.
- Almost all vehicles bears a unique vehicle identification number, but only registered ones display a vehicle registration plate and carry a vehicle registration certificate.
- It is important that the vehicle registration remains valid at all times.
- The Inspection report is valid for 30days to complete the procedure for Traffic Department approval.
- Following documents are required for vehicle inspection:

- A good quality clear photo copy of both sides of the vehicle registration card (istamara) ( for already registered vehicles)
- Note: If the vehicle is not registered in the State of Qatar you must bring the; Customs and Import Documents
- The inspection is a mandatory requirement in the State of Qatar, all caring countries with a motorized population have policies to protect their citizen and residents from the dangers that unfortunately arise from motor vehicle use, and an important part of this commitment to protect the public in the State of Qatar is the mandatory periodical vehicle inspections conducted by FAHES.
- The technical inspection takes approximately 10 minutes for a good condition car.
- Note: If the first re-inspection is a 'FAIL' then the subsequent following re-inspection is a paid inspection at the normal main inspection rate, any inspections after this follows the pattern of one paid and one free if they are within the 30 days from the original main inspection. If a vehicle doesn't PASS within 30 days of the first main inspection all previous reports and repairs will be ignored and a new fresh main inspection will take place checking every item again.
