Qatar - Apply for Smart Card Activation


Procedure

  • The smart card can be activated for both personal and corporate transactions by visiting the e-government department at any of the government service centers affiliated to the General Directorate of Border Passports and Expatriates Affairs.

Apply In-Person

  1. To make an application for activation of a Smart card, one has to make an application to the Ministry of Interior (MOI). This is done in person after being issued with a smart card.
  2. Once you have made an application for a smart card at the MOI offices. You will be required to approach the smart card activation desk in the same department for the activation of the smart card.
    • Note: The smart card cannot be used to access e-services unless it is activated.
  3. Here you will be provided with an application form for activation of the Smart card to fill and submit. The application form can also be obtained from the MOI Website or from the following link: Smart Card Activation Application Form
  4. Fill in the application form and submit it together with the new smart card to the government official for activation.
  5. The government official will go through your application and the will swap your residency ID for a chipped e-Card and will activate the Smart Card.
  6. The card will be issued immediately once this is completed.
  7. This application is free of charge.

Eligibility

  • This service is eligible to individuals who have just acquired a new smart card which has not been activated.

Fees

Applicable fees are as follows:

  • QR100 for the ID card issuance.
  • QR100 for one year.
  • QR150 for two years.
  • QR200 for three years.
  • QR250 for e-Government services for three years.
  • Activation if free of charge once you have paid the application and issuance charges.

  • Qatari citizens and residents, as well as GCC nationals who are interested in obtaining an E-Gate card should visit the immigration department in Madinat Khalifa.
  • Apply for a smart card
  • Make smartcard application
  • Once your new smart ID is activated, you can skip the immigration process at the Hamad International Airport and no longer wait in line to get your docs verified by an official.

  • The smart card needs to be activated for one to access e-services offered by the government.
  • The Smart Card eases the process of going in and out of Qatar.
  • This card allows air passengers and officials to enter and exit the country easily.

For those authorized to sign on the establishment ID: the customer has to submit a smart card activation application form, available on the Ministry of Interior website, to any of the above-mentioned centers to activate the card and add the authorized companies. For the representatives whose names are not listed in the establishment ID, the customer will need to submit a letter from the establishment owner to the General Directorate of Border Passports and Expatriates Affairs, in addition to the above-mentioned application form, to add a company on the representative's card.

Note: Customers (company representatives) may activate the smart card-only for personal transactions at the General Directorate of Border Passports and Expatriates Affairs. There is, consequently, no need to attach any documents, except the activation form. Then, they have to log in to Hukoomi with a card of a person authorized to sign on the establishment ID before using the service "Add Company on Personal Smart Card of Representative" to have the company added.==Other uses of the Document/Certificate==
